働く者は労苦して何の益を得よう。私は神が人の子らに与えて労苦させる仕事を見た。神のなさることは、すべて時にかなって美しい。神はまた、人の心に永遠への思いを与えられた。しかし、人は、神が行われるみわざを、初めから終わりまで見きわめることができない。（伝道者の書3：9～11）
私たちはキリストを信じる者として神様と共に永遠の人生を生きるために創られました。聖書はこのことを何度も何度も教えています。神様は全ての人の心に永遠を備えてくださいましたが、上記の聖書個所にもあるように、私たちは大抵この事の意味をなかなか掴む事ができないでいます。私たちはいま住んでいる世界に簡単に捕らわれてしまい、永遠というものを、引退することとか、ときには死ぬことと似たようなものだと思ってしまうことさえあります。こういう考えでは、生きていてとても疲れやすく落ち込みやすくなってしまいます。私たちが将来について心配してしまうあれこれの事よりも、ずっと大きな事のために私たちは創られたのです。私たちはこの世界では単なる訪問者に過ぎないとパウロは教えています。それは私たちのたましいの将来が神様の所にあるという事を思い出さなければならないからです。あなたの心に永遠が備わったのは、それが唯一生き残って次の人生に進む事の出来るあなたの一部分だからです。たましいが本当に生きていくためには、神様に注目した将来が必要なのです。さあ生き始めましょう！
What does a worker gain from his toil? I
have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful in
its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom
what God has done from beginning to end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
Scripture reminds us time and time again
that as Believers in Christ we were created for a life of eternity with Him. He
set eternity into the hearts of all people but we often have trouble grasping
what this all means, as stated in the Scripture above. It is all too easy to
get caught up in the world we live in and to view eternity in terms of reaching
retirement or even death. This could make life both stressful and depressing. We
were created for something much greater than what we normally fret over regarding
our future. Paul reminds us that we are mere visitors to this place because our
souls need to be reminded of its future in God. Eternity has been set into your
heart because it is the only part of you that will survive this world and go on
to the next. The soul needs a future focused upon God in order to truly live.
